We held a really special event in the veiled, decorated environment of Novomatic Aréna on Firday evening, as a part of which our team’s 2021/2022 roster has been announced!
The sometimes serious, sometimes happy event was launched by the autograph session of our managing director Zoltán Török’s book called Mese is lehetne. What’s more, before the participants of the first part came on stage, everyone present had the opportunity to take photos as lifelong memories and to take a special look at the trophy collection of our club representing the biggest achievements of the team – Ronchetti Cup triumph, 4 Euroleague FINAL4s, including our nation’s biggest international basketball achievement, the Euroleague silver medal, 14 championship titles, 10 Hungarian Cup titles.
After the short movie presenting the story of our two gold medals this season and the FINAL4 participation our team captain
Zsófia Fegyverneky, our head coach
Dávid Gáspár and the inventor of the night,
Zoltán Török joined the fans filling the stands alongside the host of the night,
Mihály Major.
The unusual story-telling look-back giving us a peek behind the scenes was started by Dávid Gáspár, who was then followed by Zsófi creating many happy moments in the makeshift amphitheater. Our team captain was followed by Zoltán Török on the podium, who told us valuable thoughts regarding the season that was full of challenges. We got to the most interesting part for the fans, the next season’s roster announcement at about eight o’clock, before which our managing director thanked the humbel work of the departing players, Tina Krajisnik, Megan Walker and Kamilla Varga. Our coaching staff changes in one place, because our physical trainer, Róbert Szegedi will go separate ways.
Let’s take a look at the arrivals!
Our managing director announced Serbian national team member, Eurpoean champion and Olympic bronze medalist
Nevena Jovanovic first. “The wholehearted, self-sacrificing role, that she has in the Serbian national team will be her role in Sopron for the next season.”
Aby Gaye will change one of our Euroleague rivals’ colours to green and yellow. “We singed a player with great attributes, who can still be improved, and will be a substitute for Betti Határ in the upcoming season.” - said Zoltán Török in connection with the French post player.
“It is know that players come out of UCONN University with an excellent education.” - our managing director continued with the next arrival,
Napheesa Collier. “Gabby Williams might be the happiest about this announcement now. The team’s repertoir could be enriched with a combo guard from December 1st (that’s when she will join the team), who might widen our offensive and defensive repertoir.”
“We wanted to have a Hungarian player on the roster, whom we could sing without any compromises. We didn’t have a chance to do that.” - our managing director concluded the roster announcement also creating a motto for the upcoming season:
“There is no lost ball!”
Before the pause the main participants of the night and this year’s golden team was greeted with a great round of applause by the fans, while our team’s titles appeared on the LED screen and the speakers started playing Queen’s eternal classic, We Are The Champions.
After the short break we continued with Gábor Lantos and Zoltán Török’s talk about many decades, to which the background was our managing director’s book entitled Mese is lehetne, and the atmosphere was set by our club’s historic moments coming to life to the notes of LGT’s classic Gondolj rám. Everyone got emotional listening to the two people in the middle recalling many memories causing everyone to get goosebumps. The book presentation came to an end to the tone of Zorán’s song Üres bölcsőt ringat a hold fénye.
The night, however, didn’t end there, but with a traditional Q&A at the buffet between Zoltán Török and our most persistent fans.
