European Championship in 2020 in Sopron again!

FIBA has informed the Hungarian Federation that from the 8th to the 16th of August 2020 Sopron will host the U20 Women's European Championship. All that was announced by Ferenc Szalay the president of the Hungarian Federation dr. Ciprián Farkas the mayor of the town on Monday's press conference.

So after 2018 we can welcome the 16 best national teams of the U20 age group which is the gate to senior basketball to fight for the throne of Europe.

In the speeches it was mentioned that with the 2015 extension of Novomatic Aréna became a unique venue in Europe where thanks to the two basketball courts suitable for international tournaments the continental campaign can be held in a single arena, and at the same time three different teams can practice. The memorable moments of the 8th Champions Tournament held by our academy, the youth European championships, the European qualification tournament of 2011, the 2015 senior European championship and the two FINAL4s have reached millions of fans worldwide and attracted sportsmen and women, relatives and basketball fans from 25 countries to the town who have carried the reputation of Sopron with them along with the press representatives.

The many years of collaboration between the Hungarian Basketball Federation, the county rank town of Sopron and the women's basketball team of Sopron Basket this touristic segment is the second largest tourist attraction of the town and thee region.

We can proudly state that in recent times Sopron became the capital of European women's basketball!
