Our schedule is getting crowded from now on, since we are switching to a two games per week rhythm. Before the beginning of the Euroleague season next week we are facing a mid-week task in the Hungarian league from 6.30 pm in Városmajor against rookies TFSE-MTK, who have caused a big upset in Baranya against PEAC-Pécs.
Our opponents have become a team by merging two clubs together for the season. With the fusion of MTK who have a huge past behind them and the champions of last season's second division TFSE-MTK was created, who chose Városmajor as their home. The head coach of the team is Bianka Magyar who led TFSE to the first division, and who is one of the group of young coaches who have a bright future ahead of themselves. The head coach of our opponent and our former youth player Bianka Magyar took our praising words kindly after their big win at the weekend and she has also shared her thoughts with us about her connection to Sopron.
"Firstly, thank you for the kind words. I am happy about the win, of course, but we are still playing with a lot of mistakes, which is natural. We don't want to rush anything in preparation, we are advancing step-by-step in practice, and we hope that the time will come when we will play the way we have planned. Wednesday's game will really be a bit different than others, it is special for many reasons. We have great respect for our opponents, we would like to be a worthy opposition to them, and make a little step forward in comparison to the game on Saturday."
TFSE-MTK began the season with great rhythm, not at all scared of their rivals. They have caused some problems in the opening game against last year's runners-up DVTK (66-83), and in their second appearance they managed to come away with a surprise victory. They won at the home court of PEAC-Pécs by burying no less than 13 triples (94-84)! Looking through statistics we can see that besides the two Americans Chanise and Alisia Jenkins there are two Hungarians Réka Bernáth and Krisztina Süle who average over 30 minutes on court. They are also responsible for most of their points scored. On the roster we can also find Alma Németh who - just like her coach - was our former youth player. They put together a well-paced, brave team who will for sure give all they've got against us as well.
Our team has also brought good performances in the games so far. Responsibilities were well distributed among the players, and it says a lot about our defense that we managed to hold Cegléd at 14 points until half-time at the season opener. It is very important for us to make steps forward with every game, because next week, on October 16th we are playing in France against BLMA on the opening day of the Euroleague season which seems to be a very difficult job.
Before the game we asked Kamilla Varga about her expectations with whom we also took a look back on the events of last weekend's festive season-opener.
