The competition of the FINAL4 has ended a little over a week ago in our town, but praises and acknowledgements keep coming our way.
The first man of FIBA's European department Kamil Novak has thanked for the warm hospitality in the last two years, the outstanding organization, and all the energy our club contributed to the development of women's basketball on the continent in an official letter. He emphasized the wonderful atmosphere, the fans' passion towards the game, which made this year's event memorable as well.
The members of FIBA's organizing committee have highlighted at the closing ceremony, and later in email as well, that they were very happy about our application, because they thought that in such short notice only our experienced staff could be able to successfully organize such a monumental event. The number one journalist of women's basketball Paul Nilsen has expressed his gratitude through Twitter.
One week too late... but better late than never...
At the sold out event there have been 3000 fans present every single day. Nearly 100 volunteers, and an extended staff has worked 24 hours a day to create a FINAL4 as high level as last year. Based on the feedback, we have managed to jump the bar set very high by ourselves in 2018 again, for which we owe huge thanks to everybody who have helped with their work!
A look-back video was also made, in which we had Amanda Zahui at the mic.
We thought about children in the process of organizing as well. Some took part in playful exercises at the area created by Decathlon, and others took photos with the mascot of the European Championship among others, while the young guns of our academy have shown themselves on the court during breaks in the games. What's more, the luckiest were able to get a photo of themselves taken together with the Chief Secretary of FIBA, Andreas Zagklis and his family, who have honored the Euroleague Women FINAL4 with their presence for the first time!
We had a memorable FINAL4 this year as well, which has become a part of European Women's basketball history.
Our head coach Roberto Iniguez spent two wonderful years with us, who has visited our Managing Director Zoltán Török as promised with whom they agreed in a discussion about the future that he will come back to Sopron one day
